First tip. Stop being so Goal-Oriented
If you’re rushing around trying to get everything done at once, micromanaging, and insisting being in charge, you’re going to be stressed. It’s easy sometimes to get so wrapped up in accomplishing things you forget to breathe. Anytime you’re too goal-oriented, you need to ask yourself why you’re doing what you’re doing in the first place. Is it possible you’re setting some goals which are too lofty or are involved things you shouldn’t be wasting your time on?
Second tip. Quit Talking Down to Yourself
It’s incredibly stressful when other people put you down. It’s even worse when we do to ourselves. When your internal dialogue is full of failure, negative comments, and reminders of past mistakes, it’s tough to get things done, or even to feel good about your efforts.
Third tip. Learn to Better Handle Conflict
Few people enjoy confrontation. If you’re not handling conflict well, you’re going to be stressed out. The solution? Learn better communication skills. Skillfully verbalizing your point and managing difficult conversations is crucial to reducing stress.
Fourth tip. Stop Expecting Failure
This has been touched on before when discussing negative self-talk. Expecting failure runs deeper, though. This kind of reasoning can stop you from trying in the first place. Even if you do try, you’re going to be so stressed out, you’re likely to self-sabotage and wind up failing after all.
Fifth tip. Doing Too Much
Here is the heart of the matter. Most people tend to overcommit. When your schedule is booked solid, it’s normal to feel stressed out. Here is where a reality check helps. Write out your schedule for the next week, and ask yourself which of these items or truly expendable and which of these are truly necessary. It might be time to reassess your priorities.
While there is no cure-all to getting rid of stress in your life altogether, by following these steps, you can reduce it. Remember, the key lies in being intentional and refusing to let stress take over your life. 1. You Use the Emergency Exit
What does this mean. Do you tend to come close to completion of a project only to back out at the last minute? When you feel the need to bail, it’s typically because you’re afraid to take the last step. Either you’re too worried that it won’t work out, or worse, you’re worried that it will. Or, you give more importance to what others may say or what they may think about you IF it does not work out or if you have correct something. It’s not uncommon to back away from things that frighten us, EVEN if we ourselves is what is causing the fright. This is why some may tank a relationship the moment it triggers whatever your personal fear may be such as fear of rejection and feeling that at some point this other person will leave you so you actually destroy a relationship that may have been very good for you. It’s also why some sabotage themselves at work when they hear they’re being considered for promotion. They may fear being judged or found incompetent because of the low value or low self-worth they may hold. 2. You’re Procrastinating even though you know it is not good for you
Think about it, when you put things off, it typically means you are feeling unsure about something. It may be that you are unsure about letting yourself get judged because once you complete something it is open to commentary and opinions of others. One fact to mention here is that procrastination is a self-handicapping behavior. This is a sing of being your own worst enemy and is a self-handicapping behavior because procrastination negatively impacts work productivity and personal performance outcomes in career development and promotion and relationship success. Now, its natural to put some things off that that conflict with what you want to do in the moment however in truth you give power to procrastination when you do not follow through on tasks that you know will reduce your experience of success in your life at work, your business, in your relationship and in your personal development. If you feel like your skills are not up to the task, or you’re not confident regarding the next step, it’s natural to put things off, hoping that somehow by magic it will be better later. Sometimes, you just need to ask for help.
3. You’re Burying Yourself in Something Else Entirely other than where your focus needs to be.
Think about it. Are you easily distracted, emotionally? If you’re worried about the outcome of one project, it’s not uncommon to throw yourself into another. This helps you keep your mind off of what worries you. It also keeps you from getting done what you need to.

I throw out all old beliefs that are expired without regrets. I keep my cupboards clear of any rotten thoughts, hate, or guilt. Are you ready to say – and do – honestly, “I clear out my emotional cupboards by addressing ‘my stuff’ as needed and I use helping professionals when my emotional ‘stuff’ becomes too much. I notice when I fall into old emotional patterns and pull myself out of those ruts immediately without justifying them. I am getting better and better not activating my unwanted emotions”?
Commitment also requires that you acknowledge the work you have done for all your accomplishments both big and small. Are you ready to say – and do – honestly, “I give myself credit for how quickly I can turn around my emotions and thoughts. I know the work it takes to address my emotions to maintain success and fulfillment. I do not feed my distracting emotions in the moment rather I focus on the task activity and do what is needed for it. I am grateful for learning to be in a state of success so that I DO NOT feed my non-success-focused emotions in the moment”? Take a moment each day to ponder the tests you overcame and your good works. Meeting life’s challenges WHILE fulfilling your purpose each day is the good fight!
Commitment requires modifying your perception to enhance consistency. Your perception is your personal optimal performance state (POPS) success mindset filter.
